Energy & Renewable Energy
At SAWA, we engineer innovative power generation and renewable energy solutions in Southern Africa. We also install remote plant and facilities, and erect power transmission lines.
Did you know that around 16% of the world’s energy consumption comes from renewable resources such as biomass, hydro, wind, solar and geothermal.
Renewable sources of energy have been the driver of much of the growth in the global clean energy sector for the past 25 years, and at least 30 nations presently around the world already have renewable energy contributing more than 20% of energy supply.
Some of the services that we provide, include:
- Power stations & sub-stations.
- Route survey & commissioning of power lines.
- Solar farms, wind farms & hydro-electricity.
Wind energy production constitutes over 2.5% of total worldwide electricity usage and is growing rapidly at more than 25% per annum. A key advantage of wind power is that it is a renewable source of power with close to zero emissions and has a limited impact on the environment which is very important to us at SAWA.
Hydroelectric power plants generate almost 90 per cent of all renewable energy. They come in all sizes, and the largest ones have a production capacity of more than 10 GW. Most hydro power comes from the potential energy of dammed water driving a water turbine and generator.
Energy from the sun is the single largest source of energy on Earth. The daily insolation of light from the sun on our globe is approximately 6,000 times the total amount of energy consumed daily on Earth. Solar heating panels transform the sun’s energy into heat or thermal energy by heating up water. Solar heating is one of the most well-known and environmentally sustainable alternatives to traditional energy sources. Large scale solar heating plants have the potential to cover more than 50 % of the yearly heat production.
